Our Philosophy
How We Heal
Our approach is not a formula — it's a living, responsive relationship between therapist and client, grounded in science and guided by heart.
Whole-Person Healing
At Art of Change Counseling, we believe healing happens in relationship — not just in insight. Every modality we use is chosen because it meets the nervous system where it is, not where we wish it were.
Our therapists weave together evidence-based practices with creativity, play, and somatic awareness to help clients of all ages move from survival to thriving.
Nine Pillars of Our Practice
Each pillar is a lens — together they form a complete, compassionate approach to healing.
Trauma-Informed Care
Everything we do is filtered through a trauma lens. We understand how adverse experiences shape the brain, body, and behavior — and we create safety first, always.
Creativity
Art, metaphor, and creative expression open doors that words alone cannot. We use drawing, painting, collage, and storytelling as pathways to healing.
Play
Play is the language of children — and the forgotten language of adults. Through play therapy, clients process experiences, build resilience, and rediscover joy.
Mindfulness
We teach clients to notice what's happening inside — thoughts, sensations, emotions — without judgment. Mindfulness builds the inner observer that makes change possible.
Breath
The breath is the fastest path to the nervous system. We integrate breathwork into sessions to help clients regulate, ground, and return to the present moment.
Somatic Healing
Trauma lives in the body. Somatic approaches help clients track physical sensations, release stored tension, and restore a felt sense of safety from the inside out.
Relationships
Healing happens in connection. We work with attachment patterns, family dynamics, and the therapeutic relationship itself as a vehicle for lasting change.
Evidence-Based Practice
We draw on EMDR, CBT, DBT, CPP, and other rigorously researched modalities — always adapted to the individual, never applied as a one-size-fits-all protocol.
Nervous System Regulation
A regulated nervous system is the foundation of all growth. We help clients understand their window of tolerance and build the capacity to stay present through difficulty.
"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."
— Carl Rogers
